According to CDC data (Death data through Novermber 2021, vaccination data through January 22, 2022, hospitalization data through January 25,2022):
Covid is still, by far, the greatest risk to people 65 and older;
Vaccines are very effective in preventing death;
Boosters improve vaccine efficacy in preventing death and this is even more so for the high risk age group 65 and over;
The US was highly vaccinated, especially throughout the higher risk (age) groups;
There is a significant lag in US death data and as a result the affect of the omicron variant on these results is still not available; and,
It appears that current hospitalization, which does include the omicron effect, has peaked and it is expected that deaths will correspondingly start to drop in a week or two.
