Forest management is an important factor in preventing and controlling wildfires as it removes deadfall which is a large contributing factor for wildfires.
Three major tools of forest management are controlled burns, harvesting and the fire trails that are associated with harvesting. As vast and increasing tracts of land are being made off limits to commercial operations harvesting has become greatly reduced and there has been a reduction of fire trails.
Of the remaining tool, there is a dramatic difference in practice between Canada and the US
The US has ~750 million acres of forest.
Canada has ~857 million acres of forest.
The US has ~4500 controlled burns every year.
In 2022 Canada had 45 controlled burns.
